Spanish collection of support to Ukrainan learners

01.06.2022

More than 500 volunteers, 30 publishers and 3,300 digital resources, join the #EdTechStandsWithUkraine movement, driven by Odilo, and which already has the support of associations such as Todos con Ucrania, Emergency Home, BUE, the Ukrainian Association of Madrid, among others; as well as the Ukrainian teachers’ volunteer association and refugee volunteers, ministries of education, or national and municipal libraries in Europe such as eBiblioCAT.

The objective? To continue to join forces and facilitate access to an unlimited learning ecosystem for Ukrainian refugees.

This non-profit initiative allows refugee children and their families to learn the language and culture of the host countries in an interactive way and maintain the educational program in their native language. The ecosystem, accessed through the URL and app created by Odilo, also provides an avenue for entertainment and connection with other students, which will help them build community and disconnect from the continuous information about the war.

Through a smart platform, commonly referred to as the “Netflix of education”, refugee minors can access more than 3,300 multi-format digital resources (e-books, audiobooks, videos, films, courses, magazines, newspapers, etc.) from the best providers from all over the world for free.
Ukrainian publishers such as Vivat Publishing, The Black Sheep, The Old Lion Publishing House, UA Comics, Crocus Publishing, Bohdan Books Publishing, or V.Books- XXI already collaborate with the initiative for the incorporation of digital content and print rights. The International Publishing Association, the Ukrainian Publishers & Booksellers Association, among other key Associations for such a project, continue to join this movement.

#EdTechStandsWithUkraine has also become a hub that allows, so far, more than 30 publishers in the country in question to continue operating thanks to the print-on-demand of more than 200 of their digital titles. How does it work? Through a marketplace that connects publishers (content providers) with schools, libraries and institutions in Europe that are hosting refugees, the book distribution process is simplified, offering these institutions the option of printing and distributing them on their own or relying on Odilo (thanks to its agreement with print-on-demand company PodiPrint).

The marketplace has just received a request to print 1,000 copies of 14 titles from Ukrainian publisher The Old Lion Publishing House.

Thanks to the #EdTechStandsWithUkraine initiative, Ukrainian refugees will be able to access educational experiences designed in their language especially for children and families, reading and learning clubs, virtual classes in languages spoken in the host countries, webinars to support cultural adaptation or entertainment activities taught by volunteer teachers and authors. The aim is none other than to generate a community in which its members can support each other from a distance, and that the children can meet other children of their age in the host country, so that they feel accompanied.

Virtual classes taught by volunteer teachers, both Ukrainian and from other nationalities, will support the new school program on a schedule compatible with face-to-face classes. Reading clubs will also offer the possibility of connecting live with other children and having the opportunity to discuss different chapters of a book with the authors themselves, thus supporting the works of Ukrainian and international authors.

Anyone wishing to request information and join this initiative by signing up as a volunteer teacher or facilitator can do so through the #EdTechStandsWithUkraine website.

Educational technology once again fills a need, as it did during the confinement in the case of Odilo, which made available globally an unlimited learning ecosystem to bring students and teachers together with the same goal: to democratize access to high-quality education in a philanthropic way.
